This was an indie dev's labor of love, and it shows.ħ0% PCHyper Light Drifter is artistically an 8 to 9 out of 10. In conclusion, Hyper Light Drifter is worth playing because it's rightfully part of the indie canon.

The end effect was that I didn't care much about the world or the protagonist. The game gives you enough to get through the end, but I don't know why each areas four switches activated a giant monolith that activated a rune in the central town. More importantly, I had only an inkling of an idea what I was supposed to do. When you do talk to NPC's, you get pictures of what happened. Unfortunately, the game suffers a bit because of it. I hate reading RPG dialogue, so when I heard this game has none, I was thrilled. If I had friends, I'd make one read a map and help me 100% all the hidden items, but alas I don't, so I only found about 60% of them. This is a game you could play with a guide. I hate secrets, and while it's thrilling to find them, you'll be hitting most walls to see if there's a hidden passageway. I hate secrets, but this game gave me the thrill of finding new areas and items more than a few times. They're a little on the easy side, but still make for an engaging fight. The bosses are a step above average as well. When they horde up, they sum is (slightly) greater than the parts-with ranged fighters plinking at you while you're harrassed by melee fighters. They're all interesting to look at and fun to fight. Your attacks feel good, and the dash mechanic makes sticking and moving fun. Yes, your character moves a bit slow, but you can still maneuver around enemies effectively. You got your snowy mountain, your red-leafed forest, your aztec marsh temple, and a biomechanical dungean. The different areas of the world all look amazing. The color scheme and pixel art impress throughout. It's pretty-and that's probably why you bought it. just don't think to yourself this is a deep video game as the cutscenes want to convince you, you'll just end up disappointed.Ĩ0% Nintendo SwitchIt's worth a play. If you come here for a profound, wordless narrative, stay far away but if you come looking for a beautiful neon aesthetic and addicting combat, its worth your time. For a world so deeply realized, it feels pointless, as a world without history or purpose just a video game stage for you to have dumb fun. This is not about if I understood it or not, but for you to get the tiniest amount of lore you have to activate 20 random towers around the world to get a single paragraph of story. And probably my biggest issue is how cryptic and uninviting the narrative is. Bosses are where combat shines, but some were so campy and defensive that when I beat them it didn't feel rewarding, I just had to cheese them to win. Combat is satisfying and rewarding but this game's idea of a challenge is throwing 10 of the most obnoxious enemies at once and you to be okay with it. Sure, is a fun action game but I'm more in love with its art-style (That looks like if A Link to the Past and Blade Runner had a baby) and music than I am of its mechanics. Afterward, 2 diamonds heading to the pillar, and lastly the dash challenge one.60% Nintendo SwitchThis is one of those games that plays a gentle, somber piano piece while the credits roll and expect you to think its a life changing experience, the thing is that while it has the atmosphere of one, it doesn't has the devotion or quality of one. South - Either left or right side to get to the eyes for the first diamond is mandatory.

West - (and one of these two, probably the one on the right?) North - (Just get the one on the left side and backtrack again. I don't yet know where to get one easily.) I'm looking through the diamonds to see which 4 would be fastest everywhere.Įast - (Plus the one just after the boss. Be quick though, I've managed to crash the game by doing it slow. You can skip the demon attack cutscenes by just quitting and reloading the game as soon as you unlock the 4th diamond. You can teleport during the pillar animation.Ģ. Just activating the pillars will not power the last elevator.ġ. The bad news: You do need to collect 4 diamonds in each area.
